Steven Grieco, PhD

Steven F. Grieco, Ph.D. is a neuroscientist and biochemist whose research bridges molecular biology, neural circuit mapping, and neurotherapeutics. He earned his Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Miami and completed his postdoctoral training at the University of California, Irvine, where he is now an Assistant Project Scientist and Assistant Director of the Center for Neural Circuit Mapping.

Dr. Grieco’s work focuses on understanding how neural plasticity can be reactivated in adulthood, with applications to psychiatric disorders, Alzheimer’s disease, and sensory system recovery. He has co-authored more than 40 publications, including articles in Nature, Molecular Psychiatry, and Journal of Neuroscience, and his research has been supported by competitive awards from the Knights Templar Eye Foundation, the Conte Center, and the Stanford Program for Integrated Neuroscience Technologies.

A frequent invited speaker, Dr. Grieco has presented internationally on the mechanisms of ketamine-mediated neural plasticity and innovative interventions for amblyopia. He is also an active science communicator, with media coverage by National Public Radio and other outlets, and serves as a reviewer for Nature Communications, Nature Methods, and Communication Biology.
