Caifang Zhu, PhD

Dr. Caifang Zhu is Chair of the Chinese-language PhD program in Transpersonal Psychology at Sofia University and a recipient of the university’s Excellence in Teaching Award. He serves on the Board of the International Transpersonal Association and is an adjunct professor at the Buddhist Academy of China. Dr. Zhu holds a PhD in East-West Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies, an M.T.S. from Harvard Divinity School, and a B.A. in English from Beijing International Studies University. 

 

An internationally published scholar with over 30 academic papers, Dr. Zhu is also the translator of Jung’s Psychology and Religion: West and East into Chinese. His research explores humanistic, transpersonal, and integral psychology; meditation and altered states of consciousness; and non-violent communication. He is the developer of Grounding and Communication as an Integrative Therapy, formerly known as Meditation Initiated Integrative Therapy (MIIT). A longtime practitioner of meditation and tai chi since the early 1990s, Dr. Zhu previously chaired the Harvard Buddhist Community (2003–2004) and served as Director of Community Service for Harvard Alumni for Mental Health (2021–2022). He is also a Certified Psychological Counseling Supervisor in China.
